OFM dedicates airwaves to farmers with OFM Farmer Appreciation Day 2020

OFM, the sound of your life, will be honouring Central South Africa’s agricultural communities on Wednesday, 2 December – a day dedicated to these unsung heroes who passionately pursue this noble ‘profession of hope’.

Listeners can tune in from 05:00 – 19:00 to get to know the region’s agricultural icons and to hear how they can lend a helping hand to this crucial sector, which literally feeds us all.

OFM is encouraging listeners to send a message of encouragement to thank farmers, and their labourers for what they do for us every day. A voice note can be sent via Telegram to 084 222 9497 (data rates apply), or photos and videos can be shared to OFM’s social platforms (Facebook, Twitter or Instagram) with #OFMFarmerDay.

According to Lindiwe Mtwentula, OFM Marketing Manager: “As the profound quote by Brenda Schoepp goes, ‘… once in your life you need a doctor, a lawyer, a policeman, and a preacher. But every day, three times a day, you need a farmer’. At OFM, we’re proud to support the farmers of Central South Africa. Our hearts beat Agri, so we want to do our part to show the men and women working in that sector how important they are to us and to society, as well as promote ways in which people can assist them during times of need.”

Says Lindiwe Mtwentula, OFM Marketing Manager:  “Central South Africa boasts some of the country’s best agricultural produce and we want to know how our listeners like to turn this bounty into memorable meals.  As always, there will be prizes up for grabs.  Should your recipe be selected as the best, you will be awarded the grand prize of a R30 000 Checkers voucher.  Lockdown brought out the chef in all of us.  Now is the time to turn your top recipe into cash!”

In addition to the R30 000 grand prize, all entrants stand a chance to win a number of spot prizes of R500 in Checkers vouchers.  Should you be drawn, called live on air and have a Checkers Xtra Savings card, your voucher will be doubled and you could walk away with a R1 000 Checkers voucher.  Plus, should your recipe be chosen to feature in the book, you could win R1 500.

Run, walk or cycle along your own five or 10 kilometer route anywhere you are between 06:00 and 18:00 to participate.  Register you’re activity for R100 on the OFM website at www.ofm.co.za before 9 November and receive a branded T-shirt to wear during your activity.  All proceeds will go towards the South African Depression and Anxiety Group.

As always, listeners stand a chance to win if they join the challenge!  Snap a selfie in your branded Let’s Move T-shirt participating in the event, share to social media with the hashtag ‘Let’s Move’ and tag OFM on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and be entered into a lucky draw where one lucky listener could win R5 000 for themselves and R5 000 for their favourite charity.

Says Lindiwe Mtwentula, OFM Marketing Manager: “Mental illness and the stigma surrounding it, is a critical issue in South Africa.  This year has been particularly rough on all of us and has had a severe effect on those with mental health issues. Science have proved that regular exercise can have an incredibly positive impact on mental illness. It also relieves stress, improves memory and boosts overall mood.  What better way to get moving than with the sound of your life!”

The digital race is hosted in collaboration with Mondia Health and Wellness with centers in Bloemfontein, Bethlehem and Vereeniging.  They provide care and treatment to people with psychiatric, psychological and addiction challenges.  The beneficiary of the proceeds of the race, the South African Depression and Anxiety Group is at the forefront of patient advocacy, education and destigmatisation of mental illness in the country.

OFM is spreading the joy on #HappinessDay

On Tuesday 20 March 2018, OFM will dedicate a full 24 hours of broadcasting to happiness and positivity in celebration of International Day of Happiness.

From midnight on the 19th to midnight on the 20th of March, happiness will take over the station entirely.

On this day, OFM will only play happy, upbeat music and all content will have a positive spin. That means feel-good news and sports bulletins, weather and traffic. Our presenters will also do their bit to ensure that happiness is at the order of the day in their programmes. Listeners will also have the chance to win cool prizes, which will definitely generate feelings of happiness!

Even the OFM Street Squad will be in on the action and will certainly put smiles on a few faces when they surprise some of our listeners with treats.

Finally, making sure Happiness Day makes a lasting impression, OFM will fundraise for “smiling meals” to support vulnerable children in Central South Africa.  The station will work with Child and Family Welfare Free State, Northern Cape and North West by encouraging our listeners and businesses to pledge funds for this great cause.  Only R20 will buy a hungry child a meal.

Says Nick Efstathiou, OFM General Manager: “We celebrated International Day of Happiness on OFM for the first time last year and the day was a huge success! This year, we will build on the concept by introducing “smiling meals”.  What better way to spread the joy than by feeding hungry tummies and putting smiles on the faces of children in our region. We are all very excited to be part of this fantastic initiative and I would like to encourage every listener and every business in our region, big or small, to contribute to this great cause.”

International Day of Happiness was established on 28 June 2012, when UN Resolution 66/281 was adopted by consensus of all 193 member states of the United Nations.  It is celebrated around the world on 20 March.

To make a pledge, contact OFM at 051 5050 909, or send an e-mail to info@ofm.co.za.

CUT forges collaboration with a key media partner

IMMEDIATE RELEASE – 08 February 2018 development of partnerships with the two strategic partners in the Province.

Earlier, CUT signed an Memorandum of Understanding with the Black Management Forum; later with the Central Media Group (CMG) as part of its commitment to building partnerships with various institutions to enable the University to initiate social and technological innovations towards the socio-economic development of the Central Region.

The parties sealed the deal which will focus on a range of joint projects that are aimed at propelling these partnerships forward in terms of advancement of the region; and CUT views CMG as a key media partner to its Vision 2020.

These signing ceremonies are an important course of action for CUT, as they reaffirm its commitment to Vision 2020.  The vision talks about building partnerships to contribute meaningfully to the aspirations of the region in areas of socio-economic development and innovations.

“We view Central Media Group as a key media partner to support our vision in much broader ways than media. We want to make an impact globally; most importantly in the region, and cannot achieve this without partnerships, as we need robust partnerships to help us position and reimagine CUT as a university”, said Prof. Henk de Jager Vice-Chancellor and Principal.

“Gone are the days when people used to refer to us as a Technikon, said Prof de Jager.  He said that the chapter of CUT being referred to as a Technikon must be closed so that communities begin to appreciate “CUT as a fully-fletched university of technology; focusing on innovative problem solving, career directive, academic programmes and leading research programmes and contributing to technological innovations”, he concluded.

Mr Gary Stroebel CEO Central Media Group said that CUT and CMG share a common goal of empowering and uplifting communities. “Our ability to stand together and take on an adventure in our own community is an essential part of our future success. Our role within communities is to empower and uplift the economy. I believe that empowerment and upliftment comes from two vital elements which is education and experience; often education without experience is meaningless and experience without the ability to transcend your immediate experience into another is also sometimes a limiting factor. When these two can come together we create an uproot draft that is able to drive progress,” he said
