OFM, Central South Africa’s media powerhouse for more than three decades, is proud to announce that the Sound of Your Life has signed up to once again be the exclusive electronic media sponsor of the Toyota Cheetahs.

The radio station, through its on-air and online platforms, will not only keep fans updated on the blow-by-blow action throughout the Carling Currie Cup season, which has just commenced, but also check in regularly with the squad to track their progress and build ‘gees’ amongst supporters so that although they’re playing to empty stadiums, they take their home ground advantage on the road with them to the field.

If one could sum up the job of a journalist, it mostly comes down to telling stories. Not our own, but those of other people. This might sound simple, but the work that goes into writing and broadcasting or publishing a story can take days.

Journalists are thus considered people who have a wealth of information on the widest variety of topics. Now, taking this into consideration, who would ever think we would live in times where we would have to report on something unknown, invisible, so foreign, never experienced in modern times, and only learning the (mutating) facts as we write?

OFM is celebrating its 35th birthday by giving away a total of R35 000 in cash with the Spot OFM’s Yellow Fleet competition!

The Sound of Your Life turns 35 in 2021. To celebrate this momentous occasion, OFM is criss-crossing Central South Africa and giving its listeners a chance to win big.

Central South Africa’s number one radio station, OFM, celebrates its 35^th birthday this year.

From its humble beginnings in 1985 as an SABC evening broadcast of Radio Highveld in Bloemfontein for the central South African region, to the Northern Cape and Free State eventually having their own station, Radio Oranje in 1986, to adopting its current name and format in 2002, OFM has had an remarkable journey thus far.

Bloemfontein – OFM, inspiring listeners to live the real good life in Central South Africa, called on listeners to send in their favourite recipes, showcasing the incredible produce available in our region, for The Real Good Recipe Book. After much deliberation, the winner of the grand prize of a R30 000 Checkers voucher was chosen on 19 December 2020… and the lucky winner is Willem Kruger of Bloemfontein, with his Pork Rosti recipe!

As Willem said in his entry: “I went to England with my girlfriend (now wife) on a working visa. We worked at a pub and that is where I fell in love with cooking. One day I had an opportunity to add a dish to the specials menu, and it was a winner. I’ve been making this dish for my family for years and it brings back great memories every time I make it.”

OFM, the sound of your life, will be honouring Central South Africa’s agricultural communities on Wednesday, 2 December – a day dedicated to these unsung heroes who passionately pursue this noble ‘profession of hope’.

Listeners can tune in from 05:00 – 19:00 to get to know the region’s agricultural icons and to hear how they can lend a helping hand to this crucial sector, which literally feeds us all.

OFM is encouraging listeners to send a message of encouragement to thank farmers, and their labourers for what they do for us every day. A voice note can be sent via Telegram to 084 222 9497 (data rates apply), or photos and videos can be shared to OFM’s social platforms (Facebook, Twitter or Instagram) with #OFMFarmerDay.

But every day, three times a day, you need a farmer’. At OFM, we’re proud to support the farmers of Central South Africa. Our hearts beat Agri, so we want to do our part to show the men and women working in that sector how important they are to us and to society, as well as promote ways in which people can assist them during times of need.”

Bloemfontein – OFM, inspiring listeners to live the real good life in Central South Africa, is looking for the dishes that make Central South Africa salivate!  The Real Good Recipe Book seeks to showcase Central South Africa’s favourite recipes.

The book will feature our OFM presenters’ favourite dish, along with the old family recipes, new creations, gourmet masterpieces and fast food fixes our loyal listeners love.  The book will feature six categories, namely beef and lamb; pork and poultry; venison; fruits, nuts and vegetables; dairy and eggs; and maize and wheat.  Each of our presenters will make a video preparing their favourite dish in a specific category.  The video’s QR code will be printed in the book to watch later.

Says Lindiwe Mtwentula, OFM Marketing Manager:  “Central South Africa boasts some of the country’s best agricultural produce and we want to know how our listeners like to turn this bounty into memorable meals.  As always, there will be prizes up for grabs.  Should your recipe be selected as the best, you will be awarded the grand prize of a R30 000 Checkers voucher.  Lockdown brought out the chef in all of us.  Now is the time to turn your top recipe into cash!”

In addition to the R30 000 grand prize, all entrants stand a chance to win a number of spot prizes of R500 in Checkers vouchers.  Should you be drawn, called live on air and have a Checkers Xtra Savings card, your voucher will be doubled and you could walk away with a R1 000 Checkers voucher.  Plus, should your recipe be chosen to feature in the book, you could win R1 500.

Bloemfontein – OFM, the sound of your life in Central South Africa, is encouraging its listeners to move on Saturday, 14 November by joining the Let’s Move digital race, in collaboration with Mondia Health and Wellness Centres.

Run, walk or cycle along your own five or 10 kilometer route anywhere you are between 06:00 and 18:00 to participate.  Register you’re activity for R100 on the OFM website at www.ofm.co.za before 9 November and receive a branded T-shirt to wear during your activity.  All proceeds will go towards the South African Depression and Anxiety Group.

As always, listeners stand a chance to win if they join the challenge!  Snap a selfie in your branded Let’s Move T-shirt participating in the event, share to social media with the hashtag ‘Let’s Move’ and tag OFM on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and be entered into a lucky draw where one lucky listener could win R5 000 for themselves and R5 000 for their favourite charity.

It also relieves stress, improves memory and boosts overall mood.  What better way to get moving than with the sound of your life!”

The digital race is hosted in collaboration with Mondia Health and Wellness with centers in Bloemfontein, Bethlehem and Vereeniging.  They provide care and treatment to people with psychiatric, psychological and addiction challenges.  The beneficiary of the proceeds of the race, the South African Depression and Anxiety Group is at the forefront of patient advocacy, education and destigmatisation of mental illness in the country.
