What on earth is a #BakkieArm? 

What started with ‘Word of the Week’ is now Central South Africa’s latest fashion trend, all for a good cause.

The OFM Good Morning Breakfast, weekdays 06:00 – 09:00, recently entertained listeners with their weekly riddle – ‘Word of the Week’ – during which a novelty word is revealed to the audience, and they then have to guess what it means.

African Media Entertainment (AME) has a deep history with radio and the business of radio in South Africa. As a company with a keen interest in audio development, AME recognises the power and value of audio. With changes in technology, on-line audio consumption is a growing phenomenon and caters for listeners looking for a specific audio journey both in real time and on-demand.

In 2020, OFM asked Central South Africa to “Show us your recipes!” Now, as the world slowly shifts back to a more ‘normal’ post-pandemic state, we asked listeners to share their most memorable travel experiences.

The end product: The Real Good Travel Book – a collection of memorable travel experiences from OFM’s listeners and presenters.

As part of OFM’s goal of turning 2022 into #Twenty20You, another lucky listener was rewarded with a significant prize.

OFM’s Real Good Travel Book competition with Hinterland and Hinterland Fuels formally ended on 30 March 2022 with the awarding of the grand prize of R15 000 to the winner.

The OFM team surprised 33-year-old Mari le Roux from Hartbeesfontein in the North West at her workplace in Klerksdorp with a huge cheque.

OFM alumni continue to make strides in Central South Africa.

Central Media Group (CMG) Chief Executive Officer, Nick Efstathiou, has been appointed to the board of the Free State Goldfields Chamber of Business.

This well-known member of the Free State business fraternity has spent many years at the helm of Central South Africa’s leading commercial radio station, OFM, a subsidiary of CMG.

Efstathiou is also renowned as a meticulous media professional specialising in executive radio station management, brand management, and development, strategic marketing, sponsorship management, radio programming, media sales, and events.

This March, OFM is coming to meet our loyal listeners. Our team will travel all over our beautiful region to explore the gems of the Free State, Northern Cape, North West and Vaal. From 3 – 26 March 2022, OFM will broadcast live from selected towns on selected days to give our listeners a chance to win with the launch of the #OFMFanWall competition!

The Covid-19 pandemic not only had far-reaching implications for the economy, it also had a devastating effect on the creative, arts and entertainment sectors in particular.

As South Africa, and Central South Africa, slowly enters what could cautiously be labelled as ‘recovery’, the time is ripe for audiences to support their beloved artists on stage.

This winter, Central South Africa feasted with a goal on Thursdays as OFM and Round Table Southern Africa joined forces to fight the freeze – with vetkoek!

Die Groot Vet Kombers Proe-jek challenged listeners to support a wide range of charities. OFM visited towns and cities in their broadcast region, where vetkoek with Beefmaster mince was sold at R35 each, but listeners were encouraged to make larger donations to charities in their region. In some cases, donations up to R10 000 were received!

OFM, celebrating 35 years of the sound of your life, is offering listeners a chance to win big with the OFM Secret Song competition, on air from 2 to 30 July 2021!

July has been earmarked as OFM’s ‘official’ birthday month, with special on-air birthday programming planned for Thursday, 1 July. From Friday, 2 July, listeners will be enticed with the exciting ‘Secret Song’ competition, where one lucky listener stands to win R35 000 cash for correctly guessing the title as well as the artist performing the song in question.
