Play your part at OFM’s winter drives

This winter, OFM invites listeners, clients, and stakeholders to come and play their part for charity at various drives, including the popular Shoprite Checkers OFM Chip 4 Charity golf days and Boeries 4 Blankets fundraiser.

The Sound of Your Life will be stopping off in Hartswater, Potchefstroom, and Bethlehem.

According to Anchen Lintvelt, OFM sales and marketing manager, these two campaigns are designed to help those in need during the cold winter months and to contribute towards making a difference in the lives of individuals with health-related problems.

“We are very excited to be able to host the Shoprite Checkers OFM Chip 4 Charity golf days again this year, and even more to bring the famous ‘Boerie’ sales back! Our partners play a massive role in helping us execute these events successfully and we want to invite the community to support us by getting in touch with the Round Tables involved to show your support. Or, just come and make your donation by buying a boerie!”

When the cold bites, take a bite of a boerie! Ahead of the Chip 4 Charity events, Boeries 4 Blankets challenges you to buy a boerie for a donation of R30 or more and make the cold months a little warmer for those in need. Round Table will use the donations to purchase blankets, clothes and food for old age and children’s homes in the towns.

Chip 4 Charity will once again see golfers going for gold on the green. This year’s beneficiaries are:

Jan Roux (17) from Hartswater was diagnosed with Myoepithelial Carcinoma in March this year. He has received radiation treatment but the cancer has not gone into remission. Jan now requires chemotherapy.

Louisa Klopper from Potchefstroom requires surgery and chemotherapy as part of her breast cancer treatment.

Lisa Engelbrecht (5) from Bethlehem is battling chronic granulomatous disease. She received a stem cell transplant, but her body rejected it, and she requires further treatment.

The format for all three golf days will be a four-ball alliance, with two scores to count. There will also be R45 000 in prizes up for grabs across the three golf days. The four-balls can be booked at R2 000 (each four-ball includes an OFM gift, a round of 18 holes, a halfway lunch, dinner, and live entertainment). See booking details for each venue below.

For Hartswater Golf Club, phone 053 474 0027; for the event at Potchefstroom Country Club, contact Christo du Plessis at 078 120 2374; and, for the Bethlehem Golf Club event, contact Ruan Kok at 062 533 8002.

Waterholes are available at the clubs at R2 000 each.

Karoo Musiek will provide live entertainment after the prizegiving.

Those who are not going to play golf for charity are encouraged to support the Boeries 4 Blankets drive, held at the towns, the day before the golf days.

The station celebrated 35 years in the broadcasting industry in 2021. OFM is part of the Central Media Group, with its head office in Bloemfontein, and a satellite studio in Welkom.

OFM offers several niche features – including a dedicated agricultural programme with three additional agricultural news updates a day, as well as a dedicated business programme with two additional economic news updates throughout the day.

Sport is close to OFM listeners’ hearts and is what brings much of Central South Africa together. The station is a proud partner, sponsor, and supporter of the Cheetahs, Griquas and Leopards rugby teams as well as the Knights, Heat and Dragons cricket teams. OFM is committed to living the real good life, while at the same time helping Central South Africans to live their best lives.

Friendly Wesselsbron face #OFMFanWall grand prize winner

One of OFM’s biggest competitions of the year, the #OFMFanWall, reached its epic conclusion with the awarding of the grand prize of R20 000 cash on 1 July 2022 – OFM’s 36th birthday.

Listeners were able to enter the competition by visiting any of OFM’s outdoor broadcasts to have their photo taken from March until the end of June. These photos now form part of a huge digital photo album and will also feature on highway billboards as well as prominent places in Central South Africa.

During the last phase of the campaign, 16 semi-finalists were selected in a random draw. Finally, four finalists were randomly drawn during the last week of the competition. They were Patrick Rose from Upington, Riana Oosthuizen from Vanderbijlpark, Taytum Adonis from Klerksdorp, and Marghalet van der Linde from Wesselsbron.

On the morning of 1 July, during the Good Morning Breakfast show, finalists were eliminated throughout the morning. Rose and Van der Linde were the final contestants left standing.

After much suspense, Van der Linde was announced as the grand prizewinner.

She entered the competition when her photo was taken at OFM’s outdoor broadcast at Grain SA’s NAMPO Harvest Day in May.

“I can’t believe it, it feels unreal!” Van der Linde exclaimed. “Thank you OFM and have a great birthday. It feels like my birthday as well!”

Van der Linde also used the opportunity to express what the radio station means to her: “You mean so much to us (listeners), encouraging us, playing songs that make your day, giving us interesting stories… My radio is constantly on OFM. You travel everywhere with me!”

According to OFM Content Manager, Elzette Boucher-Krüger, this was another amazing #OFMTwenty20You campaign from The Sound of Your Life.

“Towards the end of 2021 already, OFM endeavoured to create opportunities for our listeners to turn 2022 into ‘Twenty-20-You’. Our first campaign saw a deserving student win a year’s tuition at Potchefstroom Academy and SAAST. We also established our monthly Bucks for Bills competition to help listeners pay their bills in these trying times. Then, The Real Good Travel Book competition awarded R15 000 cash for a bucket list travel story. Now, the big one – the Fan Wall – has concluded. We not only made an OFM fan R20 000 richer, but through this campaign we’ve crisscrossed our broadcast region, meeting the people who tune in and collecting a myriad of friendly faces, representing the beautiful people of our special broadcast region.”

OFM would like to thank our loyal advertisers without whom these campaigns would not be possible.

We look forward to the second half of 2022 and making sure that we keep on creating opportunities for our listeners to have the best year ever.

OFM STALWART APPOINTED AS NEW CMG CEO

Nick Efstathiou, General Manager of OFM, a division of Central Media Group (CMG), has just been appointed as new CEO of CMG.

Efstathiou will take over from Gary Stroebel, who was at the helm of the company for the past 11 years.

Efstathiou has been with OFM since 2001 when he was appointed as Morning Show Producer and Marketing and Events Coordinator. In 2004, he took over as Marketing Manager and in 2011, he was appointed as Group Marketing Manager of CMG. In this capacity, he was responsible for the implementation and management of marketing strategies for OFM, as well as other companies within the group, namely Mahareng Publishing, Redstar Agency and Digital Platforms.

In 2012, he was appointed as General Manager of OFM. Under his leadership, OFM achieved the highest instances of time spent listening (TSL) in South African commercial radio, a Grand Prix Loerie and thirteen nominations at the Liberty SA Radio Awards 2018, with two outright wins.

Efstathiou says he is excited to lead Central South Africa’s leading media company into the future.

“We have incredible talent in this organisation,” says Efstathiou. “Through our people we will deliver value back to our audiences, shareholders and holding company.”

According to Dave Tiltmann, CEO at African Media Entertainment Ltd, CMG’s holding company, Efstathiou’s appointment bears testimony to the talent within the company.

“I am delighted to announce Neoclis (Nick) Efstathiou’s appointment to the position of CEO at Central Media Group. I am a firm believer that our number one customer is our very own people. To the extent that succession at this level in our organisation can come from within, is a testament to the intellectual capital in the AME Group. Consistency is the key to a change in leadership and Nick certainly is the right person to guide CMG through its next growth phase. I wish him every success.”

Efstathiou says he looks forward to the new challenges lying ahead.

“My vision for this company is to sustain and grow this business and continue to be Central South Africa’s leading media company. We have the best jobs in the world. Through passion and commitment we can positively affect the lives of the audiences we speak to on a daily basis.”
