EDUCATION:                      Relevant tertiary qualification

EXPERIENCE:                     Have at least 2 years’ relevant experience.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Source the most relevant news stories for OFM’s audience and work through offerings from different content suppliers and news sources
  • Compile the news bulletins in Afrikaans and English and correct radio news format oComply with the Media Law and ICASA regulations  oWork according to editorial and ethical codes
  • Read the desired length of news bulletins in Afrikaans and English
  • Post radio news stories on relevant digital platforms and link some news to social media
  • Monitor the public’s comments on the radio’s news website and social media oUpdate spreadsheet on editorial contributions and news statistics.

 

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Have exceptional communication and written skills, in English and Afrikaans. oNeeds good pronunciation, articulation and intonation oHave an excellent news sense and knowledge of the news trends oHave good interpersonal skills
  • Have journalistic experience in fetching and drafting news oGood writing and proofreading skills
  • Have advanced skills in news and audio production and editing system like Newsboss, Audacity etc. oBe able to work under extreme pressure and adhere to tight deadlines oBe a team player
  • Be able to function effectively within a multi-media environment

Sourcing general and agricultural news, doing interviews, re-angling stories, presenting sound-bites, handling press releases and doing follow ups where necessary while building an extensive network of contacts.

The following position has become vacant within OFM’s Marketing Division based at our Bloemfontein office:

 

JOB TITLE:  Marketing Manager
REPORTS TO:  General Management: OFM
EDUCATION: Post-matric qualification in marketing or related fields
Tertiary Diploma / Degree in Marketing Public Relations would be advantageous

 

EXPERIENCE:      Have at least:

  • 3 years’ experience in Marketing, and
  • 2 years’ managerial experience.

 

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:
Manage the full spectrum of marketing functions on the OFM brand and trademarks. Market the brand into the current audience and expand the brand into untapped markets. Make the media more accessible to the market it serves. Oversee marketing strategies that effectively describe and promote OFM and its products.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Be in possession of a code B driver’s license. Own transport essential.
  • Computer literate (advanced understanding of Outlook, Word, Excel and MS Project)
  • Perform well under stress
  • High level of emotional maturity

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Implement marketing and business plans that build audiences for OFM
  • Implement and manage a strategic marketing and communications plan
  • Implement and manage public relations plan

  • Manage OFM website, smart phone application, social media platforms
  • Manage OFM’s charitable and corporate social investment projects
  • Manage multiple marketing budgets
  • Manage client and stakeholder relationships both internal and external
  • Coordinate and manage research for OFM
  • Attendance at media launches, client functions, trade shows, public meetings and other events as and when required
  • Maintain the OFM brand and perception of the brand in the market place
  • Manage the Marketing department, and oversee OFM functions and events
  • Negotiate trade exchange and promotions with clients and potential clients
  • Handle administration

PROGRAM INFORMATION:

 

The program offers recently graduated, aspiring journalists an opportunity to acquire journalistic skills within a fully convergent newsroom and multimedia environment of print and digital platforms.

The successful candidate will be expected to work at Mahareng newsroom on a full time basis for a ten (10) month period.

At the end of the internship the candidate should be able to successfully complete the following:

ü  Sourcing strong story ideas, doing interviews, writing a radio news story/bulletin, re-angling stories, adding value to stories (soundbites, photos, videos etc.) handling press releases, doing follow-ups where necessary, building an extensive contact network and be active on all social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
